Cpacitor is used to correct the power factor(bring power
factor value close to unity, thus minimising wasted energy
and improving the efficiency.

It is not always necessary to reach a power factor of 1. A
cost effective solution can be achieved by increasing your
power factor to greater than 0.95

connecting capacitor bank across the generator will disturb
the stability of generator operation because of uncntrol
reactive power components.normally this is not advisiable

If we connect capacitor to generator it may act as
additional load on the generator or it may boost up the
generator volatage to higher level for which generator
shuold have some protection and it can be used to improved
power factor as it injects the reactive power required by
inductive load or for the energy saving purpose.
