In a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control system, the integral (I) and derivative (D) components are used to eliminate steady-state errors and improve transient response, respectively. The integral term sums up the error over time to ensure that the controlled variable eventually reaches its setpoint, while the derivative term anticipates future changes in the error by analyzing its rate of change.
