Do you know the overhauling of a motor?..

Answer / vijaykumarht

Overhauling means re-conditioning. Dismantling the complete
motor, checking for any damage or wornout parts replacing
the damage or wornout parts(bearings, carbon brushes, end
covers etc if required)and assembling it.
This is done to increase the life of the motor.

Do you know the overhauling of a motor?..

Answer / arvavasu

Overhauling of electric motor means renewal of worn out
ball bearings, cleaning of winding/ internal with CTC,
inspecting the winding with Megger, inspecting of rotor
with growler, inspecting for any bend in shaft, inspection
of bearing housing, grease route, making any defects
alright, ensuring it is rady for further operation of
another two years. Rebalancing of running parts
recommended. The motor should be water proof after the
overhaul. Anticorrossive paint should applied externally.

"¢ Disassemble the fan assembly and remove the motor to the shop for overhaul.

"¢ Disassemble the motors. Thoroughly clean and examine all parts.

"¢ Protect machined surfaces.

"¢ Inspect and dimensionally measure motor components including end bells, frame, shaft, sleeve bearings, keyways, fan and running surfaces for wear, eccentricity and other defects. Submit a condition report with readings and conditions as found.

"¢ Completely strip and clean the armature, field coils and inter-pole coils as applicable.

"¢ Rewind the motor using new wire of the proper size and type as specified by the motor manufacturer or equivalent.

"¢ Perform insulation resistance test, DC High Pot or equal, on newly rewound motor and submit report to owner's engineering representative.

"¢ Replace bearings and grease seals, or sealed bearings as original and lubricate if required.

"¢ Renew all assembly hardware and gaskets on covers and inspection plates

"¢ Reassemble and dynamically balance the rotor and motor assemblies. Owner's on site engineering rep to witness

"¢ Reassemble the motor using new contractor provided; shaft sleeves, gaskets and fasteners, bearings.

"¢ All surfaces of the fan, fan housing and motor frames exterior shall be blasted and painted with two (2) coats of primer and one (1) finish coat

"¢ Upon completion of all repairs, inspection and approval by the owner's engineering rep, return assembly to the ship.

"¢ Reinstall motor assemblies using new fasteners and gaskets as original.

"¢ Reconnect the motor and perform operational test for rotation in presence of owner's engineering representative.

"¢ Test under operational conditions for minimum of one hour after temperatures stabilize. Record current voltage, speed and frame/bearing temperature rise at 15-minute intervals. Submit all reports and prove work satisfactory to the owner's engineering representative.

"¢ All interference's and earlier removals shall be reinstalled.

As the maintenace manager (the "owner's engineering rep" eventually reports to me), I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions for improving the QA tests in the spec to ensure that we get the motors back in as a "like new" condition as possible. Please include in your responses the reasons why a certain test should be performed. Thanks in advance.

motor overhauling means first of all inspecting the motor
for any vibration, abnormal sound, high ampere taking and
then opening its parts checking the winding with megger, the
vernishing done if required, changing of bearing if any
vibration or abnormal sound is coming.refitting all
parts, painting and checking ampere after a test run then
installing it again properly.

Do you know the overhauling of a motor?..

Answer / baker

WHEN THE MOTOR IS NOT IN GOOD CONDITION FOR EXAMPLE NOISE
OR HIGH VIBRATION... THEN THE CONDITION MOTORING INSPECTORS
WILL SEND THE MOTOR TO OVERHAULING .... AFTER THAT THE
MOTOR WILL BE COMPLETLY CHECKED FOR BEARING , GREASING ,
WINDING CONDITON BECUASE IT MIGHT BE OVERHEATED , TYPE OF
GREASE ,ROTOR , FAN , COUPLING AND SO ON

Answer / s.thamilarasan

motor overhauling means first of all check the bearing and
shaft level then check the insulations level with megger,
the insulations is under determine value to improve the
insulations level by apply the ctc then apply varnish
heated some time using heating element, then check the
insulations level automatically improved.

There are two nos of 33Kv/11Kv 5MVA transformers conecting through HT cable from substation having metering at substation itself. One transformer used at a time another remains stand by.Further 11 nos of 11Kv/440V transformers are attached on it and each transformer is having its own Power factor correction panel. Now one 33/11Kv transformer at no load condition/Stand by condition is having power factor in leading side upto 0.21 and while when another tranformer at same situation have power factor in lagging 0.42. Now one thing is clear that transformer one is having 1.5 Km long 33kv cable due to that PF goes in leading side and another is having only 250 mtr length remains him lagging. Now i want to know that how i can maintain the Power factor at no load/ stand by position though both are behaving in seperate manner.
