A Theoretical plate is an imaginary/hypothetical line/unit
of a column where the distribution of solute between
stationary phase and mobile phase should attained equilibrium.
theoretical plates is considered as the functional unit of
the column.
if more the no.of theoretical plates, the column is said to
be highly efficient.

if u don't know about the column..
i mean if u take new column....
it must & should it have 3500*L/d no of theoritical plates
where L=Length of the column(in Cm)
D=Diameter of partical
Example:if u hAve 150mm length with 3µm partical size column
then 3500*15/3=17500
that column must & should have 17500 theoritical plates

Theretical plates means the rate of absorbance is equal to
rate of disorption . accepatance cretiera nlt 2500 as per usp.
formula: TR2-TR1/ O.5*TW1-TW2.
TR2= RT OF FIRST PEAK, TR1= RT OF SECOND PEAK,
TW1= PEAK WIDTH OF FIRST PEAK, TW2= PEAK WIDTH OF SECOND PEAK
AS PER USP THIS FORMULA
