Advantages outweigh the disadvantages of using Fly Ash
Bricks over Clay Bricks.
Fly Ash Bricks Advantage:
1. Due to perfect size savings in cement mortar for making
the walls and plastering by 20-40%
2. Strength of supplied lot is similar.
3. Plaster of Paris, Putty can be applied directly without a
backing coat of plaster.
4. Lower water penetration to Clay Bricks.
5. High Strength-can be used for load bearing walls.
6. Eco friendly using Fly Ash.
Fly Ash bricks Disadvantage:
1. Bonding is lower due to smooth finish, this can be easily
corrected by using a cement:sand mortar of 1:4 and proper
curing. Also the quality of sand needs to be checked.
Clay Bricks Disadvantage:
1. Uneven shape
2. Labour Intensive.
3. Inefficient Kilns Coal Fired -Pollution
4. Cutting of agricultural land and hills -Pollution and

Fly ash bricks are nowadays mostly used for construction and gaining its popularity over builders and engineers because of its high strength, uniformity and less consumption of mortar plastering. Fly ash bricks are light weight material compared to clay bricks, so it is suitable for multi storey building, less weight means less stress on building, safety assured.
It's a proven fact that Fly ash bricks which is made with the BIS standards are 100 % reliable and long lasting than normal red clay bricks of any other conventional building material. Using fly ash is economical and environment friendly. There is no emission of greenhouse gases during production. Required operational area is smaller than any other brick producing unit.
Using fly ash in concrete creates a denser mix that provides a smoother surface.

advantages
1. Flyash Bricks are Hydraulic pressed and is manufactured in a mould. So, it has perfect shape.
2. Only 3-5% water absorption
3. Less cement mortar used in for jointing of bricks .
4. If a load is of 3000 bricks, we face only edges damages of about 30pcs, that also due to transportation from plant to site. (in red bricks damages are more than 200 pcs per load)
5. Environment friendly
6. Cost saving due to
7. High Strength
Disadvantages

Good quality clay bricks are of even surface and have more strength than fly ash bricks. Clay Bricks have strength 200kgf/cm2. Now a days machine made hollow clay bricks are available in market that are used in expose brick elevation in various institutes, homes and offices. These bricks are light weight, sustainable, durable and maintenance free. Also FYI clay bricks are burnt in kiln at 1050 degree celsius that make it fire resistent.

I think big issue with flyash bricks is that, Cement is use in these bricks as binding agent. This cement has certain life that is 15 to 20 years. After that it losses binding effect and start powdering. This effect you find in old buildings where plaster of these buildings starts separating from walls. So similarly these bricks also get weaker and weaker over the period of time. Where as normal clay bricks contains same strength for very long time.
