Answer / anzal
Differential pressure measurements can be made for flow rate determination
when a fluid flows through a restriction. The restriction produces an increase
in pressure which can be directly related to flow rate
commonly used restrictions; (a) orifice plate, (b) Venturi tube, (c) flow
nozzle, and (d) Dall tube.
The orifice plate is normally a simple metal diaphragm with a constricting
hole. The diaphragm is normally clamped between pipe flanges to give easy
access. The differential pressure ports can be located in the flange on either side
of the orifice plate
Adifferential pressure gauge is used to measure the difference
in pressure between the two ports; the differential pressure gauge can be calibrated
in flow rates

In flow measurement, we require differential pressure.
since because, Flow= Square root(differential pressure).
to create differential pressure in a pipe, we insert orifice
plate inside the pipe. in which upstream pressure will be
higher than the downstream pressure of the orifice plate.
By taking tapping from the upstream and downstream, we can
obtain the differential pressure.

In order to measure the flow rate through a pipe we require the DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE because Flow Rate is directional to the differential pressure.
Orifice is a flow meter which produces a differential pressure across itself and measures the flow rate using U-Tube manometer.
