Density is defined as its mass divided by volume.
Mathematical formula is
Density= M/V where is M= Mass
V= Volume
Unit is g/mL
Specific gravity is the ratio of the density (mass of a
unit volume) of a substance to the density (mass of the
same unit volume) of a reference substance.
Here is reference substance means water for liquids or air
for gases.Temperature and pressure must be specified for
both the sample and the reference.
Mathematical formula is
Specific gravity =density of a substance/density of a water
Both measured at same temp.
Specific gravity is unitless.
