AI- means input of 4-20mA comes from transmitter to DCS
AO- means output of 4-20mA comes from the controller on DCS
DI- means input of 0 and 1 comes from switch to DCS
DO- means output of 24VDC come from DCS going to solenoid.

for contactor or relay or solnid valve

AI like level transmitter or pressuer transmitter TC
AO like control valve

AI means field genarated signals comeing to Dcs or PLCs by the use of 24v DC suppy... ex sensors
AO means DCs or PLC genarated or field genarated signals going to control process parameters...ex control valves input 4 to 20ma
DI its logic signal 0 or 1 state came from electrical VFD drives or field...
DO its logic signal genarated in DCs to control feild process parameters..ex solenoid valves
