Can we use a absolute encoder to show rpm of a motor ? what about the condition when power is off ..

Answer / Sudhir Kumar Keshari

Yes, an absolute encoder can be used to measure the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) of a motor. An absolute encoder provides a unique code for each position it reaches and maintains that code even when power is off. This allows the exact position of the motor to be determined even after a power failure or restart.
In contrast, an incremental encoder only provides information about the direction and number of rotations since the last reference point. The position cannot be determined without knowing the initial reference point, which can make it less suitable for applications requiring precise positioning, such as high-accuracy motor control systems.
