latch:-
the simplest type of flip flop ,consisting of two cross
coupled NAND OR NOR universal gates uses latches.it is
bistable digital circuit used for storing a bit or latch are
bistable whose state normally depend on asynchronous inputs.
FLIP FLOP:-
a two states circuit that can remain in either state
indefinitely. also called bistable multivibrator . an
external trigger can changes the output stage. edge
triggered flip flop are bistable device with synchronous
inputs whose state depends on the inputs only at the
triggering transition of a clock pulse . change in the
outputs occur at the triggering transition of the clock.

Latch don't need clock pulses,latch is level
triggered,latch is a device which is used as switch.
Flip flop is edge triggered,f/f is a storing
element,latches
don't need clock pulses,flip flop is used as one bit
storage element.

Latches are level triggered while flip flops are edge
triggered. In Latch there is very less time delay relative
to flip flop.

LATCH are of two types sr, d latch.
But FLIP FLOP are of many types.
some of them are RS,D JK FLIP FLOP.

• LAT: (LATCH): This register is used to set output
values. Anything you want output on related pins must be
put on this.
Example
LATB=0xFF; //All PINs becomes high
LATB=0x00; //All pins becomes Low
LATB=0x03; //0000-0011 BIT 0 and 1 becomes high.
• PORT: This is used to get input from the PORTs.
Reading its value gives the actual levels applied on the
PINs. It must be noted that PORT is first configured as
input using the TRIS register. Suppose you connected a
switch as shown above on PORTB-0 then if you read PORTB it
will be 0000-0000 if switch is pressed and 0000-0001 if
switch is released.

latch is a fundamental building block of a flip flop.it
does not have clock or control and the basic difference is
the way in which the two chages states

1.The main difference between flipflops and latches is
latches works at level triggering pulse and flipflop works
at edge triggering pulses.
2.One more difference is latches are temporary storage
diveces and flipflops are permenent storage devices.

latchs: They are sensitive to the duration of pulse and
can transfer data until they are switched on. They hold the
last logic at the output if we put it off(bring the strobe
pin to low). They are used as temporary buffers.
FF: They are sensitive to signal change(low to high or
high to low) and not the level. Hence they transfer data
only at that instant and it cannot be changed until next
signal change. Due to this they are used as registers.
