As the Generator output frequency remains constant usually
50Hz, so we have to control the speed of the turbine in
constant speed. Govorner takes the signal from Magnetic
Pickup Unit (MPU) and operates the govorning valve so that
the turbine rotates in constant speed.

The magnetic pickup unit is mounted on turbine front, facing
the gears of the gear wheel. Generally there remains 2 or 3
nos of sensors which measure the speed simultaneously. As
the turbine rotor rotates, the number of gear teeth cutting
by the sensor increases. This is counted at the sensor
itself. According to this the sensor sends an mA signal to
the govorner. And thus with respect to this, the govorner
takes action to open or close the Govorning valve to
regulate the flow of steam entering into turbine.

Mr.Banerjee ur answers is correct but the mpu does not send the ma to governor . But it send the ac voltage to governor.
