Answer / prakash gokhale
Normally bulb or tubes are filled up with some gases.
deionisation of such gases gives the light as a product of
collidation of gas particles. But for that deionasation
high energy is required and we use choke for the same.
Choke is a inductive device which takes more power for
starting.

Answer / pritish
at the initial stage the voltage induced by the choke is nearly about 2000v due to the inductive property of choke and this high voltage is required to discharge the gasses from the filament of the tubelight. after the discharge id initiated it requires normal supply voltage to maintain the path for the gasses inside the tube.

Answer / amarnath
In a Tubelight we have a Choke which is made of Copper or
aluminium coil and when power is supplied this choke acts
as an inductive load and for inductive load initial voltage
required to start is more hence it is so.
