Transformer is a machine which transfer electrical energy
from high voltage to low voltage or low voltage to high
voltage as per consumer requirment ,but current transformer
is a instrument transformer which are used for measuring
and protective of electrical ckt. or equipment from many
kind of fault.

Answer / rms
the purpose of transformer is to convert the voltage at a
higher level or lower level depending on what purpose it
will be used. Step up transformers are seen at power plants
and substations so that it can transmit power at very long
distances. Step down transformers are seen attach at
electric post or even in electronic components..
A current transformer and potential transformers are very
important and only seen at thousand volts stations. Since u
cannot directly connect a kilowatt hour meter or other
relaying stuff at thousand volts because it will explode.
You need this ct's and pt's which will adjust the level of
the voltage at a certain ratio where it is now safe to
connect this meters and relaying stuff...

CT is a instrument which are used to supply a reduced valve
of current to meteres, protective relays & other
instruments.
CT ratio are express as a ratio of the rated primary
current to the rated secondary current.
eg: 300:5A here CT will produce 5A of Sy Cu, when 300 A
flows through Py.

TRANSFORMER IS AN MACHINE USED FOR STEPPING UP AND DOWN OF
ELECTRICITY AND COMMONLY USED FOR EFFECTIVE TRANSMISSION
AND DISTRIBUTION PURPOSES.
AND CT GENERALLY KNOWN AS INSTRUMENT TRANSFORMER USED FOR
PROTECTION ,MEASUREMENT,AND FOR THE CONTROL PURPOSE.
IT ALSO PROVIDES ISOLATION BETWEEN THE HIGH VOLTAGE
TERMINAL AND METER TERMINAL.
DURING FAULT OR ABNORMAL CONDITION CT SENSES THE FAULT
CURRENT AND GIVES SIGNALS TO RELAY, AND RELAY TRIGGERS THE
CIRCUIT BREAKER.CT'S SECONDARY SIDE IS ALWAYS SHORT
CIRCUITED AND SEC. CURRENT RATING IS ALWAYS LESS ie.1,2,AND
5A

transformer is an static device it power transfer to the
one circuit to another circuit without change the
frequency.and require of user if voltage step up or step
down etc.
Current transformer is an instument tranformer and used for
mesuring and protection agenst Earth fault and Over
current.

Transformer is an electromagnetic induction device used to
change the voltage, current or power level in an electric
system.
Measureing of large current in power system is not possible
by the usage of normal measuring devices.
But current transformer (CT) is an instrument transformer
used to measure high current in power system.

1. A transformer in as electrical equipment for transfer of
power at required voltages. Whearas current transformer is
a primary sensing element for the measurment of current in
a circuit.
2.I a transformer the primary current is governed by the
loading or in turn the secondary current, but in case of
current transformer the secondary current is governed by
the primary current.
Current Transformer is a step up transformer.
