We have a 33/11kv switchyard having 12.5 MVA power
transformer. We export & import power through this
transformer. When we export power, the PF will be depend on
GRID PF & when we import power the PF will be depend on our
load PF. but the problem is that, when neither we export nor
import but our 33KV vCB is in close position, our meter read
the power factor 0.14 to 0.25 at that moment. So how can be
we improve the power factor at that moment.

Answer / vinova

try to put some light load on your transformer during this
period if you you wnt to keep the pf high during this
period. it happens because under no load condition the
power fector angle is near 75 and power fector is high. it
happens because tansformer need reactive power for
energising its magnatic circuit. as the outer load is zero
during no load the internal load of transformer is
inductive.

are load variation in your plant? If variation for some minutes are in your plant then this problem should be created. In load time power factor was normal but on no load time power factor was abnormal, because we have maintain the power factor in on load position. At no load time capacitive power has make a leading power factor.for detail pl. cont. to Ab.
