directional over current relay when acted & how it works

Answer / engr. ajay
Directionalized relays are relays that use a polarizing
circuit to determine which "direction" (in the zone of
protection, or out of the zone protection) a fault is.
There are many different types and different polarizing
methods - ground polarizing, voltage polarizing, zero
sequence voltage polarizing, negative sequence polarizing,
etc.
The basic operation of this relay is just like any
nondirectional relay, but with an added torque control -
the directionalizing element. This element allows the relay
to operate when it is satisfied that the fault is within
the zone of protection (ie not behind where the relay is
looking).

Answer / aniruddh
the directional over current relay acting when the current
flow in perticular direction above relay setting.
It consist directional as well as overcurrent element.
the directional element sence direction of current then
o.c.element acting.

Grounding. Dear all at one of my site we checked the amps at the earthing cable to the alternator it was found 125 to 130 A. at the neutal cable in same machine found 146A. in the same plant checked the earthing current on other alternator it was 52A, and neutral 116 A. we are facing problems with our controller and the card was damaged once. can that neutral/GND current be a reason? as there is common grounding for the Alternator,Brkr panel,Transformer?
