Two type of core in ct,
1,protection core
2,metering core
protection core; only for protect the equipment used to
relay based.
metering core : this is only for showing the current in
ammeter .
In different type of class in CT 5p10,5p20 And ps it is
used for protection purpose only ,
5-accuracy class.
p- protection
10-10% error.
20-20% error.
protection class:it is calculated by the knee point voltage
test.

CT for protection means for protecting other equipment in
the ckt. based on the protection class ex:5P10
5 - % of accuracy
P - for protection
10- 10% of rated current also it withstood
CT ratio 300/1A 10% of rated value means it can withstand
upto 3000A if any abnormal condition.
Normally for metering we use CL:1 , 0.5 ,0.2 because for
metering accurate value we need.
econamy purpose we won't use 1P10 or 0.5P10 and also
protection we don't want that much accuracy.
Class PS : based on knee point voltage we caliculate PS.
this is for special purpose.

Protection CT doesnt need much accuracy and it should not
saturate in fault condition. PS class means protection
class CT. 5P10 means 5% is the maximum composite error
shown while 20 times fault current flows.Hence 5P10 is
superior comparing to 5P20

ct can use as protuction in supply lines where 3 phase use
in different areas saperatly for example in lighting in
hall, if current pass throw one phase high then ct detect
emf out side the wite and generate some supply to cut the
main source.
as you know that ct is current transformer, it fix around
the wire where current flow. when load take some current
then out side of wite some emf produce which detect by ct
and its pass some voltage which use to measure (it is a
calculation which i dont know) help to metering.
