an ice block submurged in the water, if the ice melt level of water..

Answer / akshay narayankar

Simple Practical Answer in a Straight Way guys...

As we know when water freezes, it expands i.e volume increases.

Now take 1000 ml of water in a container.
Take another 100 ml water and freeze it...the volume increases... say.. to 120 ml.

When we submerge the ice in water.

Volume = 1000 + 120 ml.... equilibrium state.
= 1120 ml..........(I)

but after few minutes when ice melts.. its volume decreases.

Volume = 1000 + 100 ml
= 1100 ml..........(II)

Thus the volume decreases. This is when both the combined together and initially Total volume is in water and ice state.

It all depends on assumptions....Interviewer never wants answer only he wants is the way of approach.

an ice block submurged in the water, if the ice melt level of water..

Answer / srinu

This is my practical experience.
you have to take one vessel and fill with water and convert
in to ice.in this process of conversion some volume of
water in the vesel defenitely falls.because the specific
volume of water is more compared to ice.
or u have to take one ice cube with tray and melts itself
then u will obseve clearly what will going on,defenitely
decrease the level because of above reson
Finally ice cube melts in water the water level
definitely decreases due to the above reason

an ice block submurged in the water, if the ice melt level of water..

Answer / anwesh

level of water becom same bcoz the ice block will cfloat
over a water and due to which it displaced the water so
after for melting it should be in same lavel

an ice block submurged in the water, if the ice melt level of water..

Answer / rich

Density of ice is 0.92 g^cm3. Density of water at 4 degree
= 1g^cm3. Start with say 10litres water with 1litre block
of ice submerged in it: total volume = 11litres. The ice
melts.
From answer #6, volume2 = volume1*density1/density2
Volume2 = 1*0.92/1 = 0.92litres

new total volume is 10 + 0.92 = 10.92 litres hence level
falls.

critical factor is that the ice is assumed to be fully
submerged. If it was floating it simply displaces its own
mass of water. When it melts the mass stays the same but
is now water so level stays the same
