how bucchos relay works in a transformer
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
It is a gas actuated relay. It has two floats.
one is top float(bucholz alarm) which is operated when
oil level in transformer decreases and for a minor fault
which is developing. The gas is collected at the top of
bucholz relay, thus displacing the oil in the top and thus
causes the float to fall down and make the NO contact.
The other is bottom float(bucholz trip) which is
operated for a severe fault which causes oil inrush towards
the bottom of bucholz relay and thus causes the float to
make the NO contact thus isolating the supply to the
transformer.Sometimes buchols relay will operate for a
feeder through fault which causes jerk in the transformer
causing oil inrush.

When there is a fault in a transformer gas bubbles are
formed in an oil filled transformer, the bucholz relay
operates & it gets trip .Thus it protects the tranformer
from any fault.

The Buchholz relay is installed at the middle of the
connection pipe between the Transformer tank and the
conservator.
for the fault in transformer it actuates the alarm or the
Transformer is disconnected from the circuit for severe
fault

In oil filled transformer the bucchos relay is mounted in
between connection pipe of Transformer tank and the
conservator.
When fault occurred(slow occurring faults) the oil near by
winding gets heated and decomposed due to which gas bubbles
are release. This bubbles get stuck in the Oil chamber of
reply and hence send the tripping signal. When the fault is
heavy large number of gas bubbles are released, when they
pass over the bucchos reply the tripping mechanism in between
gets triggered and Transformer is disconnected from the
circuit for severe
fault

during the incifient fault 75%H2 gas will be form in the
transformer is gas accumulate at buchholz relay first it
will give alarm then trip

whenever it is incipient fault in transformer, the gaseous formation take place which moves up wards from bucz relay, and replaced the oil in upper tub and press the tub , so due to mercury switch, ckt will complete & alarm will appear , if further severe fault , the oil pr. increases in tank and will go in conseverator tank through buz relay which makes press the bottom tub forcibly and trip the ckt .

Buchholze relay is gas operating relay when internal fault occurs transformer in transformer like wdg installation damage then oil heat above level and boobles done and go up and its pressure operate buchholz relay. It is only relay which operate before fault occurs in system.
