type......as stated over.......shell type and core type. But
if we see it by its use...there are three types of
transformers....1)current transformers....2)Potential
transformers....3)Power transformers.....and if we see it by
its working principle, then there are two type of
transformers...1)step up....2)step down....there is another
type of transformer .....auto transformer

As to consider the construction of transformer there are two types
one is shell type other is core type. Ffrom the operation point of view it
Step up(CT), step down (PT)
Others are varic type called auto transformer
specifictransformer is ionisation transformer.
