Answer / kalirajan.n
TAKE A LOOK IN THE FORMULA BELOW....
VD= 2*K*I*L/ CSA
WHERE:
VD= VOLTAGE DROP
I= CURRENT
L= DISTANCE OF THE LOAD FROM THE OUTLET (IN FT)
K= 12 FOR COPPER AND 19 ALUMINUM (FOR MAXIMUM TEMP OF 75 DC)
CSA= CONDUCTOR CROSS SECTIONAL AREA IN CIRCULAR MILS.

Copper Wire
Single Phase/Circuit
Voltage 240
Power(W) 1000
Power Factor 0.8
Resistivity(at 15 c) 1.72E-08
Tempertature 35 C
Resistivity 3.096E-08(for copper)
Length(m) 300(phase+neutral)
Cross section(m2) 0.000006
Resistance 1.55
Load 5.21
Voltage drop 8.06
Percentage 3.36(Do not go above 3 %)
Actual voltage 236.64
Actual Current 5.28
This is a sample of how to calculate wire size for single phase copper wire. If you want contact me for the excel sheet for copper/Al, 3phase/1 phase calculation.

Answer / venkat iyer
Factors that to be considered are;
1. ambient temperature
2. permitted temperature rise
3. factors applicable due to method of cable laying
4. factors applicable for group running of cables
5. spacing between cables
6. permitted voltage drop say 2.5%

IT IS BAISICALLY DPEND UPON THE LOAD.
SUPPOSE 53 A LOAD.
53/1.5= 35 HP
35*0.746=26 KW
26000/690=38 SqMM
THIS CALCULATION IS FOR AL CABLE

Answer / kalirajan.n
***SUPPOSE WE USE COPPER CONDUCTOR AND WE ALLOW A MAXIMUM OF
5V MAX. VOLTAGE DROP:
5= 2*12*15*230/CSA
CSA= 82800/5
CSA= 16560 CM
FROM COMMERCIAL REFERRENCES:
15560 CM IS CLOSEST TO 16510 CM WHICH IS #8 COPPER OR 8 SQMM
WIRE.
NOTE:
1. IN THIS CASE A MAXIMUM OF 5 VOLTS WAS CONSIDERED IN THE
CALCULATION.
2. THIS CALCULATION IS NOT VALID FOR LARGE MOTORS. BECAUSE
MOTORS DRAWS A MAXIMUM OF 7OO% TIMES ITS FULL LOAD TORQUE
DEPENDING ON THE MOTOR CONTROL STARTING METHODS USED BY THE
DESIGNING ENGINEER.
