Answer / rakesh kumar mallik
In case of making prestressed concrete high strength
concrete is required to reduce the dead weight of
structure, shrinkage and creep of concrete, that can be
possible only by the use of design mix concrete rather than
nominal mix of concrete

Proportions for Nominal Mix-Concrete:
Nominal mix concrete may be used for concrete of M 20 or
lower. The proportions of materials for nominal mix
concrete shall be in accordance with table no 9 (IS 456-
2000)
above M20 grade we have to go for mix design produces as
per IS 10262-2009.
all the batching should be veigh batching only

As per IS 456-2000
The nominal mix proportion is restricted upto M25.
So in order to achieve beyond M25, we follows mix design
calculation i.e: Design Mix
Moreover the design mix can be done for any mix
M5, M10, M15, ....... M60,and so on as per development in
technology.

in nominal mix we consider only cement, agregate & water in
volumetric method and can achieve upto 25mpa crushing
strength .We also get big range in strength of same mix
whereas design mix we accuratetely implement reduction of
water cement ratio by use of plasicisers ,account for
desired temparature & achive strength upto 100mpa or more
