how does relay works?..

Answer / lrankin

A relay is an electro-mechanical device which is used as
switch. The control side has a coil which when energized
(with the rated current) will produce a magnetic field
which will attract an electronic arm to a contact which
will then allow the relay to turn on a device such as a
lamp.
An AC relay works the same way with one difference.
Another coil is used along with the normal coil used in a
relay to supply some opposition when the coil is seeing the
voltage go negative. Since it holds it's magnetic charge
long enough to oppose the turn off of the main coil, the
relay will stay engaged and not chatter.
