curing is to be required for cement concrete prevent heating for cement's chemical lime (CaCO3), silica (SiO2), alumina (Al2O3) and ferrous oxide (Fe2O3 etc. because concret is not creak.

When we pour concrete after intial setting time chemical process is started which is known as hydration, certain amount of heat is evolved by which water gets evaporated, (if this water gets evaporated cracks get develop) so keep this concrete cool we sprinkle water on it.
