What will be the output of an alternator ,if the field current is single phase ac supply.
Answer / pritish
when 1 phase ac supply is given to the field of an alternator, it produces statically induced emf and dynamically produced emf as a result, the net torque will be zero and it produces hunting in the rotor. hence there is no output as the net torque is zero.
