non-directional earth fault

Answer / manesh s
Directional Earth Fault is the Fault(between Phase/s to
Earth)in the system,if system is using only one source, so
Fault would be in one direction(towards the system)
where as Non-Directional Earth Fault is the
Fault(between Phase/s to Earth)in the system,if system is
using two or more source, so Fault would be in two
direction(away or towards)

Directional Earth Fault detection is used to isolate a
fault, when using more than one source of power input.
Current Transformers are used to verify the net sum of
current as zero between any two sources of power. If there
is a fault, the breaker between the power sources is
OPENED. The protection logic will then see if the fault has
cleared. If the fault has cleared, the fault is on the side
with ungrounded power source, and will protection logic
will trip the ungrounded power supply. Conversely if the
fault continues to flow after the bus tie is OPEN, then the
fault is on the side of the grounded power supply, and the
grounded power supply will be tripped.
Non-directional Earth Fault would be a simple fault
detection, as located on a generator neutral.
