Following is the difference between deski and webi.
 
a) In XIR2 - generalised points
 
WebI now supports custom sorting, ranking (both client and server side), multiple data providers
only 4 functions not found in WebI - including: Power() function
DeskI still doesn't present as well as WebI documents over InfoView
Deski reports can be developed faster - can leverage the full power of their desktop versus working through a web tier
No Interactive viewer in DeskI
DeskI reports can handle larger (read 500,000 records or more) reports

d) Workarounds available for points of contention in Webi
 
Even many of the "missing" features have messaging behind them:
 
- The majority of Query features are quite esoteric, only those who should/could be used by IT-ish users, or at least power users. E.g.
 
User defined objects -- Admin can define new objects at universe level
Freehand SQL -- Can use Derived Tables in unv, which keeps metadata in one location instead of in each report -- easier maintenance, no need to edit SQL in individual reports.
 
- The majority of Reporter features have workarounds that are possible and/or they are specific parameters of general features that are already used in Web Intelligence.
 
Grouping: No button-based UI, but you can create a variable using "inList"
Breaks: WebI enables the most common break params, except those listed above. The above list should not be interpreted as "no support for breaks" only for those very specific special cases of breaks.
Formula functions: WebI has 98% of the functions that Desktop Intelligence has, as well as some additional functions. Here's more of a description of what the missing functions mean or don't mean in webi:
Pageinsection u2013 only possible with Native Printing, webi uses PDF
Servervalue u2013 this is only for OLAP sources, which webi doesn't yet support
Product u2013 workaround : use multiplication operator
Report templates: 1) If the customer wants a centralized definition for docs (e.g. with specific fonts, color palette, icons, etc.) they can modify the defaultconfig.xml or 2) If the customer also wants report structure, save the report with data purged. 
Printing -- of course webi supports printing, but because it's web-based it uses PDF to print so therein lies the diffs between DeskI, a windows application.
Embedded images -- WebI can display images and also enables central management of them.

(1) Is it possible to create measures using objects from different context. (2) If cross context measures are not possible then what about @aggregate_aware() function ,here we use objects from different contexts. (3)Two measures from two different context ,can they be summed at report level.

How to change the order of prompts in universe?

HI i have a table with 4 columns in back end like sales id, sales revenue, order id and order amt. Now i have created 2 prompts at query level 1st on sales id and 2nd on order id. Now if i run the report for 1st prompt it has to display sales id and sales revenue. Then if i run the report for 2nd prompt then it has to overwrite the table with Order ID and order amount. How you will handle this?
