why would the rotor rotate at sub synchronous speed against
the direction of rotating flux when d rotor of 3 phase IM is
connected to 3 phase balanced supply and the stator windings
are shortcircuited ??
Answer / Singh Pritam Jitendra
When the rotor of a 3-phase Induction Motor (IM) is connected to a 3-phase balanced supply with the stator windings short-circuited, the rotor will rotate at sub-synchronous speed in the direction opposite to the rotating flux. This happens because the short-circuiting of the stator windings eliminates the magnetic field that interacts with the rotor magnetic field, and the rotor has inertia that keeps it moving.nHowever, this motion is unstable, and the rotor will eventually come to a halt due to energy losses. This phenomenon is known as sub-synchronous resonance (SSR), which can cause damage to the electrical system if not managed properly.
