what is the physical phenomenon because of which skin
effect occurs ??

skin effect occurs due to nonuniform flux linkage in the
conductor portion. thus inductance of conductor portion is
not uniform i.e. at the conductor surface inductance is low
and at centre of the conductor is maxm. so current density
at centre is minimum and at surface it is maximum. Due to
increment of frequency this effect is more pronounced.
For dc current there are no skin effect.

ll electric currents generate magnetic fields that in turn
can affect the current (this is the principle behind
electric guitar pickups). In a direct current case
everything is constant and so nothing seems to happen. With
an alternating current, however, there is a delay in the
magnetic field's response to the change in current and the
'old' magnetic field tends to push the current towards the
outside of the conductor. As the frequency increases, so
does the effect until at very high frequencies the entire
current flows in a very narrow skin on the conductor--hence
the name.

Skin effect is mainly cause by circulating eddy currents. Eddy currents effectively
oppose the original current that was flowing to the center of the conductor, thus pushing it to the outer surface of the conductor.

Skin effect is the tendency of an alternating electric
current (AC) to become distributed within a conductor such
that the current density is largest near the surface of the
conductor, and decreases with greater depths in the
conductor. The electric current flows mainly at the "skin"
of the conductor, between the outer surface and a level
called the skin depth. The skin effect causes the effective
resistance of the conductor to increase at higher
frequencies where the skin depth is smaller, thus reducing
the effective cross-section of the conductor. The skin
effect is due to opposing eddy currents induced by the
changing magnetic field resulting from the alternating
current
