How to calculate productivity of construction equipment
like excavator, dozer, rock breaker, riper
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
For calculating the productivity we have to know the
capacity of Excavator.
Let me assume the capacity of the Volvo 210 excavator =
1.22 Cum.
Consider the efficiency as 75% (This may be changing based
on the type of material to be excavated)
Therefore, net capacity = 1.22*75%= 0.92 Cum.
time per swing(unload,swing,fill,swing) = 20seconds =>
20/60 = 0.33minutes
Consider 5 minutes rest taken by the operatoer per hour.
Therefore, no of cycles per hour = 55/0.33 = 165
capacity per hour = 165*0.92 = 151.8 Cum/Hour
In similar fashion for dozer and other equipment can be
calculated.

case-1 say komatsu 450 is used
1)bucket capacity-2.4 cum
2)ideal output=load per cycle*no. of cycle/hour
=2.4*100 (considering 35 second cycle say)
=240 cum
3) apply correction factors
a)excavator correction=0.8(if area is not a trench exactly bucket size in which case it is1
b)load factor=0.8(if load has to be dumped in tippers and not kept aside)
c)soil factor=0.67 in case of hard digging and0 .85 in medium digging
d)swing factor=1.07 for 75degree and 0.71 in case of 180 degree.
e)performance efficiency=0.83 if 50 minutes work is done in one hour.
4)corrected output=ideal ouput*a*b*c*d*e
ex: corrected output=240*0.8*0.8*.67*1.07*0.83=91.7 cum

I think 75% efficiency is correct as excavation of soil itself takes time & depends upon the area where excavation is to be done, if the excavation area is mix of soil & rocks then efficiency will be less & No. of cycles/hr will also come down.
This calculation is for ideal condition.

i believe that the 75% efficiency taken is of operator then the rest taken is not applicable as it is included in the efficiency. As well the material swell factor and the bucket fill factor should also be taken in account plus the machine availability factor should be also accounted (generally less 85 to 95% considered).
