if the load is reactive then what is the use of calculating
the real power and what is the use of reactive power
if my question is wrong please excuse me..
Answer / sagar upadhyay
If the load is purely reactive, then there is no need to find
out real power since it will be zero. But if there is some
resistance in the circuit, real power tells us the loss in
the resistor.
Reactive power is used to measure the power factor of the
circuit. since, higher the pf, higher will be the power
quality of the circuit. We always try to reduce the reacive
power keeping apparent power constant & in this way pf is
improved.

I need to compare the energy consumption of an industrial machine before and after improving. Shall I compare the apparent power or the active power? I know usually factories use compensated capacitors (or other similar components) to compensate the reactive power, so if I use the apparent power, it's not the real power consumed.
