What is OLTC in transformers and what is its function?..

Answer / er. bhabani shankar behera

OLTC is on line tap changer.it in normally connected in hv
winding.becz in order to minimize the sparking during tap
changing.as current is less in hv winding a compared to lv
winding.it helps in changing no. of turns during loading
condition.in order to very the out put voltage as per desire.

What is OLTC in transformers and what is its function?..

Answer / d k j

OlTC Means on load tap changer . this used in trasformer
secondary winding for to make tap position increase or
decrease on load and OLTC is operate and to
keep constant voltage on secondary side.

oltc not cannected in hv side. tap changer is changing a
voltage as per ur load increas and dicrese in secondary
side. and it constant in rang as oltc setting.

What is OLTC in transformers and what is its function?..

Answer / tanmoy

OLTC is an Onload Tapchanger. It is connected through the tapping leads to the regulating winding of the transformer. Most of the transformers have OLTC connected to the Primary winding of the transformer. However, there are tapchangers which supports bi-directional power flow, hence can operate in both primary/secondary windings of the same transformer depending on the direction of power flow. For an instance,if a step-down transformer being used as step-up transformer then based on the direction of power flow, the OLTC connected previously to the primary winding of the transformer (step-up case) will be now connected to secondary winding(step down).
Hence, it will be viable that we use the phrase regulating winding of the transformer instead of using primary & secondary winding of the transformer.

Nevertheless, the voltage regulation is achieved by utilizing desired number of turns of transformer windings segregated in taps, which can be selected as per need of required voltage.

Tapping arrangement is further bifurcated into different schemes..viz., Linear, Reversing & Coarse-Fine.

Hope, you will find the above explanation in order. Request for feedback folks.

What is OLTC in transformers and what is its function?..

Answer / jyothi kumar v

OlTC Means on load tap changer . this used in trasformer
secondary winding for to make tap position increase or
decrease on load.which fuction is whenever primary voltage
is decrase, automatically secondary voltage also decrease
and vice versa. at this movement OLTC is operate and to
keep constant on secondary side.
