> slip rings are segments which is made of hard drawn
copper and carbon brushes collect the emf from the copper
segments.
> carbon brushes are used both AC and DC machines but slip
rngs are used only AC machine.
> in DC MACHINE split rings are used.t is also called

In generators ,slip ring is a thick metal ring fixed to
rotating shaft duly insulated from it, to evacuate
electrical power or to receive dc supply for field
excitation ,when it is called 'collector ring'.In motor it
is used for starting and speed control ,being connected to
variable resistance box.The connection between the slip ring
and the cable is established with the help of carbon brush
which is housed in brush holder.

For polarity test on a 11/3.3kV 2.5MVA delta-star Unit Auxiliary transformer,415V 3-phase supply was applied at the HV. Connection between Aa was made with a 2.5mm cable. As soon as power was switched on the cable caught fire and burnt. This test was then abandoned. It is noteworthy to say that a similar cable was also used in a similar transformer for the same. The cable did not burn and test was successfully completed with good result. What is wrong? Please, help me out.
