it is used to measure the voltage in the bus and it is very important at the time of synchronising.

Because in power stations large current flows thru the
cables n for measurement of currents or any fault the
apparatus required must be highly rated n it wud be costly.
Therefore PT's are used to step down the current to lower
levels for measuring them
