Comparitively lower voltage substations are termed to be indoor substation. It can also be termed as industrial substation which is so cz.. such substations are for industrial purposes.... 6.6,11,33,66kV are indoor SS..

Higher voltahe i.e 132/33,220,400,765kV are outdoor SS...

I reckon the above posts were cz of confusion between AIS substation and GIS substation. The former being Air Insulated S/S and later being Gas Insulated S/S.

GIS are compact... equipments and its connections/terminations are closed and gas insulated (SF6) which is exactly oposite to that of AIS..

in an indoor substation, all the equipments are mounted
indoors.
in an outdoor substation,the equipments are mounted
outdoors.
equipments involve transformer,busbars,isolators,etc

indoor means inside a closed structure with roof.. outdoor simpy exposed outside

Substations are where we receive voltage of order 33kV or
less and stations receiving 220kV n all are receiving station,

so indoor substations are for 11/.44 (preffered) for
domestic purpose...and...outdoor substations are 33/11......
