Can we use pure oxygen in IC engines instead of air??
what would be the advantages and disadvantages of using
it?? Have any steps been taken about this??

if oxygen is used then oxidation is a problem.oxidation
decreases the heat transfer.so large amt of heat will be
generated inside the cylinder that may prone to
detonation.i think air is the cheapest resource and also
air is the lightest and also air has the high specific heat

i m very sorry, but pure oxygen and its density is not a
problem,we can regulate the incoming oxygen according and we
can prevent detonation,
advantage is to utilize 100% oxygen and can burn more
effectively, disadvatages is that it will increase the
temperature of the exhaust gas due to proper burning and
moisture won't be present there,so it is adopted that
moisture increase the performance of the engine.

The main job of fuel and air/oxygen in IC engine is to heat
the Gas to expand and produce power. The fuel makes around
14% mass of mixture and oxygen make around approx 23% and
remaining is nitrogen(63%) from air. If Nitrogen is
eliminated from the equation, more fuel-oxygen is required
to produce same power. But burning more fuel-oxygen will
produce very high amount of heat, a problem to deal with.
Nitrogen in air acts as an expanding medium, similar to
steam in thermal power plant. It absorbs heat of combustion
and expands, (like a inert fluid medium) to provide power
and at the same time keep the engine temp in desired limit.

actully oxygen is heavier weigt than air . pure oxygen
genarates more heat and high flame so it mix with
hydrocarbon than burn the engine so we cannot use pure oxygen

tremendous combustion takes place if we use oxygen which may cause structural damage to engine block.that's why the presence of mixture of gases in air provides the controlled combustion of the charge
