WHY DG are rated in KVA or MVA ???., but ALL power plants
are rated in KW or MW.,,?

Answer / vithal k.
Power plant capacity is in MW means ultimately its in terms
of Amps, current and in PF.
Whereas DG is there in KVA means in terms of voltage and
current.
PP is directly connected to Grid and hence directly come in
to the picture with System inductance.. where as DG will
have bounded load and no more Inductive load is there
compared to Grid and hence negligibly considered as 1 (PF=1)
Ultimately in KW terms PF came out of picture and hence DG
rating ar3e normally in KVA.

All dg are rated in KVA but as other conventional power plants in kw because the dg's are local power plants they have to generate their own active and reactive power as well. But in modern power plants they are used to generate only the active component of power but not the reactive power, the reactive power required by the load is generated locally by using capacitors and other arrangement. So they are raked in KVA and KWs.

MOSTLY POWER PLANTS ARE RATED SUCH THAT 210 MW., 600MW.,,
58MW.,,
BUT DG SET ALSO SAME THING BUT RATED IN KVA OR MVA.........

I am new guy as an electrical engr. in a 100MW HFO based power project. I am in operations division. I have noticed from last few days, my supervisor sends the last 24 hours energy generation calculation to my plant manager. I have noticed, he calculated last 24 hour's generated energy differences in KWH then he multiplied it with a multiplying factor 960. for example: total difference =2.685 KWH*960= 2577.6 MWH. but he does not not know what is multiplying factor 960?? can anybody explain it??
