Motors pull a very high current when they first start. This is due to the induced magnetic field building up to a point where it can begin pushing the rotor away from the stator's magnetic field. This is called locked rotor current. This current should drop off as the rotor begins to spin.

A 10 MVA, 66KV, 50Hz, Y-connected 3-phase alternator has synchronous reactance of 0.635 Ù. It is working at full load at 0.8 lagging p.f. condition. Find torque angle, neglect armature resistance.
