Strength is the maximum stress a material can hold or withstand just before failure.
Stress is the force applied divided by the section area (stress=F/A) where F is the force and A is the Area

Stress is result of loading whereas strength is the
therotical value calulated on the basis of crystal structure
and chemical composition.
For both the units and measurement systems are same.
In short we can say that while loading the material stresses
are produced and not the strength.
