Mcb is used in protection against shortcircuit & Overload
current where Earth MCB is used for leakage current. We may
say leakage current as Residual current.Residual means
difference of two currents.MCB works on the principal of
Cantilever Principal & Electromagnetic Induction .

MCB means Miniature Circuit Breaker, because it is a compact circuit breaker for domestic use.
Earth MCB are of two types: ELCB - Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker in which current flowing through the Earth wire trips the CB (Circuit Breaker) to OFF.
The other type is RCCB - Residual Current Circuit Breaker, in which imbalance of currents going in and coming out, causes CB to trip. This is more expensive and more sensitive and more protective of human life. Imbalance of the IN and OUT currents means it is flowing through something else (maybe human body) and must be tripped OFF.
