Why we use holmium oxide, perchloric acid for uv/vis
calibration
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / prasad
Because Only holmium can give sharp peaks in both UV and
Vis range, Sharp peak is very rare in UV/Vis spectroscopy.
It is very stable and doesn't absorb light at lower
wavelength.

Answer / deepak
holmium oxide in perchloric acid solution gives very sharp
peaks in the range 200 nm to 900 nm. and hence is used as a
calibration standard.

Answer / ragni vora
this is because holmium oxide and perchloric acid does not absorb uv/vis i.e. it is transparent to uv/vis region hence it can also be used as an background
