IS there any mechanical connection between the field winding and armature winding of a dc generator..

Answer / sneha

It depends on the type of dc generator.
In separately excited dc gen, field and armature windings
are not connected but in self excited they are connected in
series or parallel depending on whether it is series or
shunt excited machine.

IS there any mechanical connection between the field winding and armature winding of a dc generator..

Answer / manojkrishnan

There is no mechanical connection in between field and
armature windings . The winding of the field is wound on the
stator cores while that of the armature is wound on rotor
cores. There must be a narrow gap in between the stator and
rotor cores ( say 2mm ) so as to rotate the rotor freely .

Answer / sujit jha

no, there is a small air gap between field winding(stator)
and armature winding(rotor). They are magnetically linked

Answer / satendra kumar

There is a mechanical contact in case of self-excited machine but in case of separately started machine there is no physical contact....
And boss there may be a permanent magnet but it is not true all the time big D.C.machine have not any permanent magnet....
