what is the diffrence between single phase and three phase..

Answer / dhanesh

in single phase, voltage is measured between the Neutral &
Phase is 230 V while in 3-Phase voltage measured between two
phases is 415 V. 3-Phase having a 2-types of connection
,(1) Star and (2) Delta.

what is the diffrence between single phase and three phase..

Answer / jyotirmaya

In a
Single phase system: there will be one phase conductor and
one neutral conductor. The avaialble voltage in single phase
system is in between 210-240V and it is measured between
phase and neutral conductor.
whereas
In a
Three phase System: there will be three phase conductors for
three phases and one neutral conductor. The available
voltages are 415-440V when measured between Phase-Phase and
210-240 when measured Phase-Neutral.

what is the diffrence between single phase and three phase..

assuming several neglected-to-be-explained-here electrical
theoretical 'things'.......imagine there is a 3
pole "electric motor"....and, if you would turn the
armature (the centre part with the shalf sticking out on
the one end) of a three pole (call them pole "1,2&3")
electric motor fast enough, a voltage is generated at each
of the three terminals on the outside of that motor.
(generator, ok?) Now, the 3 poles are physically 120
degrees seperated from one another. (how? draw a circle,
360degrees, on a paper and devide that circle in 3 equal
parts like a pizza....that's it! that is the position of
every pole, 120degrees apart..) Each pole is responsible
for the generation of a "one"-phase as
the 'circle/armature' rotate round an round. Each phase is
electrically/mechanically/mathematically following the
other with 120degrees or one third of one revolution of the
armature. if you consider the three phases together in an
electrical system you talk about 3-phase system. to over
simplify a little...., at your house, your neighbour's
house and their neigbour's house you find most probably
they say they have all 'single phase power'.....Why? easy.
the three phases that are generated are individually
directed to every house!"1" to your house, "2" to your
neibour's house and "3" to their neibour's house. each
phase considered by it's own is called "single phase".
understand? If you take the output wire from phase "2" and
touch it on phase "1" you will see and hear a big
explosion. Why? because you are electrically doing
something that can be physically compared to taking the
physical pole number '2'..., use terrible force and
squeeeeze it into the physical position of pole number '1'
of your eletrical 'generator'....physically that is
impossible, therefore you get a big explosion
(electrically) because it is impossible to force one
electrical phase ontop of another. your bycicle's tire
can't put the top and the bottom on the road at the same
time UNLESS you use destructive force. myyid_j@yahoo.com
phew! does that make sense? if you do not undertand mail
to above address and will try again... ":)
