why does cycle rim dont bend even in heavy loads???????
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / parag
The spokes distribute the load throughout the rim.
Here's how :
Make a small ring of a thin steel wire. Hold it between your
finger and thumb, and press. It will bend.
Now, tie a straight piece of steel wire diagonally, and
press the ring at the ends of the straight wire. You will
need much more force.
But, the same ring will bend with lower force, if you press
it at points where straight wire is not there.
Now, tie many such straight wires on the ring, and then
press the ring.
'hope you got the picture clear :)

the rim has many spokes...the spokes distribute the load equally...and the rubber tyres absorb more than half of the load....

it is misconception
that spokes are in
compression while
loading.
Spokes being thin are
god in tension than
compression.
If you observe the
spokes they are fixed
at hub bt slightly free
at wheel.
Whn load appld the
lower spokes expnd
in whel whch brings
all spokes in upper
hemisphre in
tension, who actualy
tak load.

LOAD IS EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED ON PHERIPHERY OF RIM . SO IT UNABLE TO BEND TO RIM . AS WE KNOW THAT A HOLLOW SHAFT IS ABOUT 2.3 TIMES STRONGER THAN SOLID SHAFT. FOR REFRENCE YOU CAN SEE R.S.KHURMI'S BOOK STRENGTH OF MATERIAL UNDER COMPERISION OF SOLID SHAFT AND HOLLOW SHAFT.FOR FURTHER INQUQRY PLEASE TAKE REFRENCE.

Because of rubber tyres the load is distributed and its
effect reduces i.e. tyres absorbs heavy load and shocks
with the support of steel rim
