DC generator is a machine which gives DC current as out put
and AC generator is a machine which gives AC current as out put.
To convert DC generator to provide AC current commutator
rings are provided on its end.
In DC generator DC machine is used as an generator where as
in AC generator synchronous machine is used as an alternator.

In DC Generators AC voltage induces in armature winding &
AC is converted to dc with the help of commutator.
In AC Generators supply is taken from armature through slip
rings.
In DC Generators the armature is placed on the rotor due to
commutator.
In AC Generators armature is placed on rotor or stator.

Answer / vaijanath nirgude
in ac generator the dc excitation is given to the rotor
for producing rotating electromagnetic field & emf induced
in the stator is ac.
in dc generator magnetic field is produced by permanent
magnet or by electro magnet & emf is induced in the
armature is ac & it is converted to DC by using commutator
