Earthing :- Earthing means to connect the metallic part of the electric appliance or instrument threw a wire having negligible resistance to the huge mass of earth.
There are three types of earthing:-
1:- Pipe earthing:- in this earthing we use a 3-4 inches pipe of negligible resistance.
2:- Plate earthing:- in this earthing we use a Cu. or Al. plate having negligible resistance.
3:- Rod earthing:- this is also called temporary earthing. in this earthing we use a rod of negligible resistance.
and the another end which is underground is surrounded by charcoal or salt.

Types of Earthing
There are various ways of doing EARTHING:
Conventional EARTHING
* Pipe Earthing,
* GI Plat Earthing,
* Cast Iron plat Earthing,
* Copper plat Earthing
Maintenance Free EARTHING
Conventional Earthing:
The Conventional system of Earthing calls for digging of a
large pit into which a GI pipe or a copper plate is
positioned amidst layers of charcoal and salt. It is
cumbersome to install only one or two pits in a day.
The Conventional system of GI pipe Earthing or copper plate
Earthing requires maintenance and pouring of water at
regular interval.
Maintenance free earthing:
It is a new type of earthing system which is ready made,
standardized, scientifically developed.
Advantages of Free earthing:
Maintenance Free: No need to pour water at regular
interval- except in sandy soil.
Consistency: Maintain stable and consistent earth
resistance around the year.
More Surface Area: The conductive compound creates a
conductive zone, which provides the increased surface area
for peak current dissipation. And also get stable reference
point.
Low earth resistance. Highly conductive. Carries high
peak current repeatedly.
No corrosion. Eco Friendly.
Long Life.

1.fixed earth
these are the earths installed by the manufacturer or during erection and use to earth that equipment these are further classified as
I.earth isolator: motor driven earth switches
II.earth switch : hand driven earth switches
2.primary earth
these are the portable earths which are used to earth the equipment under maintenance other then fixed earth.(as safety precautions) or if there is no fixed earth available beyond safety distance
3.Drain earth
when ever we are working in induction zone then this type of earth is used to ground the induction leakages.
