Apart from the above correct answer, chattering may happen
aslo due to the loose supply wire given to the contactor
coil and also on the coils magnetic effect.

Chattering will occur when there is no perfect contact
within the contactor, when chattering occurs the two
contacts may get weld together. This may cause a danger when
it is required to open the circuit or required to stop the
motor from the remote option.Chattering may also occur if
the contactor is undersized w.r.t load current.

chattering occurs due to many conditions:
1. due to loose contact
2. dust contents
3. new product will not get contact very quickly but after some periodic operation it will be rectified.
4. under coil rating e.t.c
so major is no 4 & 2 this shall be taken care by manufacturer

i agree with above answer and
also manufcture can add
sheded pole ring when it
design bcoz ac current flow
positive ok but naturle side
pick up not possible so and
thats reasen they add sedded
pole ring for continios hold
contactor.
