1)Why Bearing used in Motor and pumps. 2) Why Mechanical seal used in Pumps...

Answer / phani

Bearing means which bears something, i.e. shaft.
and bearing has to allow smooth rotation to the shaft by
reducing the friction between bearing and shaft.

Suppose that there is a pump.
for any pump that is having casing, impeller.
impeller shaft must sit in the casing. so there is a gap
between impeller shaft and casing.
but pump is pumping some liquid.
if there is no sealing between this gap, whatever may be
rotational liquid, that will enter into the pump discharge
as well as into this gap.
so we are loosing some quantity of liquid.
To avoid this leak between casing and shaft, we have to
provide some sealant. that may be mechanical seal or gland
packing which will reduces this outer leak.
like this mech seals, oil seals also there to avoid oil
leak between oil sump and shaft.

1)Why Bearing used in Motor and pumps. 2) Why Mechanical seal used in Pumps...

Answer / karthick

it is better to have rolling action rather than sliding
action because in sliding action the friction will be more
but bearings give only rolling action so friction generated
will be less.

mechanical seal is used to prevent leakage between the
shaft and casing.mechanical seal consists of two parts one
stationary and one rotating.the rotating element is
attached to the shaft and stationary element is attached to
the casing.both the elements have higly polished
surfaces.so while rotating the elements forms a tight pair
and thus prevents leakage.

1)Why Bearing used in Motor and pumps. 2) Why Mechanical seal used in Pumps...

Answer / kishore

bearings are in pumps bears shaft loads axially and
radially while shaft is in rotation as well as in
stationery condition.

mechanical seals are used to leak proof of the fluids
through shafts

1)Why Bearing used in Motor and pumps. 2) Why Mechanical seal used in Pumps...

Answer / muniraj

bearing is an element which bears everything (load, heat
generated due to friction, speed, allignment of rotating
shaft) so bearings are must in motors
while pumping any fluid the casing should be air tight, and
it builds high pressure with in it hence mechanical sealing

1)Why Bearing used in Motor and pumps. 2) Why Mechanical seal used in Pumps...

Answer / zeba ansari

1. The basic function of a bearing is to aligned the driving shaft with the driven shaft, so that the shaft does not bend or get damage due to load or pressure.in case of pump & motors , it is used for the same purpose.

2. purpose of seal is to allowed prevent leakage of the flowing fluid
