DC brushless is the most common type used. It is quiet, and has no tendencies to produce noise signals that could interfere with the computer's operation.

Both answers are right..
brushless DC motor is used for cooling purposes both in
motherboard and in SMPS.
stepper motor is used in hard disc ( it needs specific
control to aquire data from disc pallet)

but sherrysethi said Breshless DC motor is used i think
