what is the difference between the HT Cable and LT Cable ?

Answer / bkmutha
If insulation grade is 1.1 kv then we called it LT cable
and above it i.e. 3.3 kv , 11 kv we called as HT cable.
in short we can say that main difference is insulation or
property of insulation to withstand voltage stress.

HT Cable:- 1) Its design having 4 to 5 layer of protection
to withstand the high tension voltage and also we can avoid
Voltage drop because of sensitive protection.
2)Bundle Conductor of HT Cable thickness is high than LT cable
3)HT Cable having R,Y & B Terminals without Neutral
LT Cable:- 1)Its design having 2 to 3 layer of Protection to
withstand the Low Tension Voltage.
2)LT Cable having R,Y & B Terminals with Neutral

In general we only use two words ie. LT & HT cable.
LT = below 500V
HT=Above 500V
But as per IS standard:
there are following voltage grades.
below 1000 V = LV
1100 V < MV < 36 KV
66 KV < HV < 150 KV
150 KV < EHV < 525 KV
We generally use PVC insulation for LV And MV cables. But it
is not compulsary to use PVC Cables as now XLPE cables are
more preffered because of certain advantages over PVC
Insulation.

In HT cable the insulation grade is much more higher then LT
cable.
Lt cable can maximum withstand 1.1kv but whereas Ht cable
can withstand much more.
Lt cable can come with 'N',but there is no 'N' in Ht.

Answer / a k sigh
HT cable is used for 1KV to 11KV voltage rating whereas LT cable is used upto 1KV. The basic difference in their insulation level/thichness, it is higher in HT cable LT cable.

For LT cable
1. Use : Up to 690V
2. Insulation : PVC
3. Core(Neutral) : Yes
4. Insulation Grading : 1100 V
For HT cable
1. Use : Above 690
2. Insulation : XLPE
3. Core(Neutral) : No
4. Insulation Grading : Above 3.3kV, 11KV..etc
( Please note that now 690 V using in VFD application with
LV cable and 440 V for DOT motor starter)

In HT cable there is only three phase and one messanger wire, and its collects neutral from where the supply is come.
where in LT cable there is three phase, one neutral and one wire is for street light.

Both are approximate same, the only main differences
between them that is insulation.Insulation level will be
high of HT cable because it will be sustand high voltage.
