A business developer (BD) contributes to bring about ideas
and implement them to benefit the client and the company.
The task encompasses a wide variety of responsibility. This
includes ways to create new customers and take better care
of the present ones. This task is achieved by assessing
marketing opportunities followed by setting target markets.
It also includes gathering information on potential
customers and competitors, generating leads for possible
sales, formulation and implementation of policies relating
to sales and follow-up sales work.
The role of a business developer can either be sales
oriented or an operational responsibility which actually
provides support to sales. When business development is
related with sales it takes care of developing important
channel relationships or general sales. Operational
responsibilities involve understanding the full potential
of a business and tap the complete potential by marketing,
sales, information management, and customer service.
